Turnaround leadership is an important research topic of educational leadership. The study selected 10 elementary school principals as research subject, and collected data by using in-depth interviews. The findings of this study indicated that: 1) the characteristics of low-performing schools included organization confl ict, low confi dence, more complaint cases, decline in number of student, lack of school goal and performances, low external reputation; 2) the power and responsibility of principal leadership was unbalanced. The communication of educational ideal is time-consuming. Applying and implementing projects from supervising agency is indispensable; 3) principals need the abilities and characteristics of confidence, profession, implementing ability, patience, integrity, awareness, analysis ability, and crisis management; 4) Setting school goal, being active, leading by example, arousing honor, establishing confi dence, effective communication, and good interaction with PA were the keys for successful turnaround leadership; 5) the effect of principal turnaround leadership could be measured by the indicators of joining external competition, school evaluation, the number of students, parents’ recognition, school climate, student academic achievement, school environment.
