The social relations among university students who are embedded into the class network consists of multiple small groups in communication. This paper aims to explore whether there is a significant difference in academic achievement among these small groups. Combining the Whole Network Analysis with Meta-analysis in the methodology of social network analysis, researchers undertook several independent studies on the differences of academic achievement among those ‘small circles' in the classes of university students. The results of 29 studies (N=1076) are comprehensively analyzed by using Meta-analysis technology, showing that (1) each class of students in the process of interaction formed different small groups with different number of students; (2) the phenomenon that “Birds of a feather flock together” does exist among university students, especially being represented as a significant difference of academic achievement in small group of students. Based on findings, the research suggests that students should try to establish good relations with their classmates who belongs to the small groups with high-levelled academic achievement; and university administrators should apply different strategies to improve academic achievement for different small groups of students.
