| 英文摘要 |
John Henry Newman was a well─known English educator on higher education. In his opinion, a university is a seat of universal learning and a place of teaching universal knowledge. Instruction is the only function of the university, with its aim of training good members of society. The university should provide the students with an ideal learning environment teach them universal and whole knowledge, educate the intellect to reason well in all matters, to reach out towards truth, and to grasp it.
