This article is edited from a paper written by Dr. Lester D. Friedman published in Academic Medicine（o. 77, No. 4, 2002）. The author contends that medical humanities should be a part of medical school curriculum, but the bioethics is different from medical humanities. Also the author argues that the medical humanities curriculum is being a precarious position in the U.S. medical school. Therefore, in this article, the author discusses the distinction bioethics and medical humanities, intrinsic value of the medical humanities, and recommends the medical humanities should be important elements in required course.
