多民族、多种族、多语言的社会特征决定了双语教育在美国经济发展和社会稳定中的必要性和必然性，然而，美国双语教育的实施却一波三折。本文通过追述美国双语教育演变的历史，从目前美国社会反对双语教育呼声日渐高涨的现实出发，以政治视角为切入点，分析自由平等观念和民族主义思想对美国双语教育的影响。

| 英文摘要 |
Bilingual education is very important to the economic development and social stability of America because of its multinational, multiethnic and multilingual nature of society. However, its development has been up and down and uneasy. This paper begins with describing the increasingly high voices against bilingual education at present. It tries to analyze the influence of ideas of freedom-equality and nationalism on American bilingual education from the perspectives of politics.
