In 28 June, 2007, the new British government made major organizational and personnel changes in central administration of education: the Department of Education and Skills was divided into two parts, the Department of Children, Schools and Families, and the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills. This change will have a significant impact on the UK’s future educational development. In order to understand the functions and responsibilities of these two newly established educational administration, this paper discusses the background and meaning of this reform in the central administration of education, and future trends of development in British education.
