英语谚语是在漫长的历史岁月中经千锤百炼提炼而成的最生动、最精炼的语言，有着独特的语音形式和丰富的修辞色彩，具有音乐美与形式美。在形式上前人已做了大量研究，广大英语学习者也比较熟悉，笔者无须赘言。音韵上英语谚语大量运用各种韵格以增强声音效果，而这方面对很多英语学习者来说还是盲区。本文就谚语在音韵方面所采用的几种常见音韵修辞格如头韵、尾韵、半谐音、单韵、双韵、谐音等进行了初步研究。

English Proverb is the most vivid and most refined words derived from the long history, which has a unique phonetic type, possesses various rhetorical features thus gives readers aesthetic feelings. Pre-researchers have made a large number of studies in the form, which the majority of English learners have already been familiar with. However there are many phonological rhetorical features used to enhance the sound effects, and many learners have a poor knowledge in this area. This article covers some common-used phonological rhetorical devices such as alliteration, rhyme, consonance, assonance, single rhyme and double rhyme.
