大學城（university towns）係指由一所或多所大學院校與鄰近社區所組構，具有大學社區相依、教研產業互持、特殊文化氛圍、社經合作發展、人口素質優化、環境共生共容、資源彼此分享等特性之城鎮。21世紀邁入知識經濟和數位時代，大學校園和城市發展關係更為密切，大學城更是快速興起，值得關切。 大學城具有城市屬性、城鎮規模大小、人口素質優化、學生人數過半、大學社區相依、教研產業互持、特殊文化氛圍、社經合作發展、環境共生共容和資源彼此共享等特徵。大學城的發展起源甚早，發展順序由歐美到中國大陸，大學城的形成、規模各有不同，歐美國家有許多大學城只有一所大學校院，而中國大陸的大學城，大學校院數平均而言遠高過歐美國家大學城。 大學城的實例甚多，本文以規劃和整體建設最具代表性的廣州大學城為例，就其大學組構、規劃理念、功能組織、空間布局、交通系統、綜合商業區等分別說明之，以利大學城規劃與推展之參考。

One or some universities/colleges and nearby community constitute university towns which has the features of universities/colleges and communities relying on each other, teaching and researching supporting the industry nearby, special cultural atmosphere, society and economy developing corporately, higher quality to the population there, living in the environment with harmony, and sharing the resources. As moving towards the age of knowledge economy and digital, the relationship between the university campus and the city development become more closely. That is why we care about the rising of university towns. University towns have the characteristics of cities, sizes of real towns, student citizens being more than 50%, and the features we mentioned above. The original of university towns is early. University towns developed from Europe and America to Mainland China. They have different development processes and sizes. In Europe and America, there is only one university/college in university towns, whereas in Mainland China, the number of university/college in university towns is far more than in Europe and America. We have many examples of university towns. Take Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center for example in the article, its planning and overall construction is representative. Later, we will separately illustrate the combination of the universities, planning idea, organizational function, spatial distribution, transportation system, and integrate business districts.
