中文摘要 我的演讲将渉及两个部分:第一部分谈的是原则问题,一些高等教育和远程教育的领导在管理中会涉及到的一些原则。然后,我把这些原则同南非大学的一些案例结合起来加以说明,因为南非大学是我接触最多,也是最为了解的一所大学。但我觉得这样并非很好,你们可能会认为我是个非常自负的人。第二部分中的一些内容将会以论文的形式发表出来。大家知道”知识社会”是一个很难把握的概念,有的时侯甚至可以说它本身具有一定的误导性,正如我们所看到的全球化社会正在形成。我们在推动知识和经济全球化形成的同时,也推动着全球化社会的形成。但事实上,我们忽视了深嵌于知识子系统中的成千上万种复杂性、文化的动性以及它们之间强有力的关系。几个世纪以来,文化形成了个体社会并赋予存在于社会的个体以特殊的内容和含义。
英文摘要 Dr. N. Barney Pityana is Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of South Africa in the city of Tshwane, South Africa since 2001 and was recently re─appointed as Principal and Vice Chancellor for another term, until 2010. He was previously Chairperson of the South African Human Rights Commission, one of the independent constitutional institutions established to protect democracy in South Africa(1995─2001). He has also served as a member of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights for a term of six years.Prof Pityana has published extensively in theology, human rights law and politics. He holds the ad hominem Chair in Law at the University of South Africa. He has also held various positions in Africa and internationally relating to his interests and commitment to human rights.In April 2006, Professor Pityana received the Award of the Order of the Grand Counsellor of the Baobab;Silver from President Thabo Mbeki. Prof Pityana is to be presented with an Honorary Fellowship from Ripon College Guddenson, Oxford in May 2008.
