Dr. Ronald J. Nungester, Senior Vice President, and Professional Service of the NBME, in the 2nd Seminar on National Medical Licensing Examination of China, conducted an overview of application of the modern psychometric theory and technique in the USMLE. The presentation includes the statistical description of examinees, pass rates and their trends in different groups and years, the key points of the Item Response Theory and its application in exam statistical analysis, items bank construction, and exam design. The exam equating, score reporting, and the methods for passing level setting were also included.
