本文审视在全球化和国际化力量的推动下中国高等教育的最新发展趋势。我们认为，中国大学所面临的压力同世界上其它地方的大学相似，但是中国大学对全球化的反应呈现出一定的独特性，这种独特性植根于中国的文化。此外，我们也将审视中国大学的国际化历程，并探寻这对我们所期待的中国在21世纪级期担负某种全球领导角色有何影响。

| 英文摘要 |
In this paper we will look at recent trends in Chinese higher education, with reference to the twin forces of globalization and internationalization. We will argue that Chinese universities are being caught up in pressures similar to those being experienced by universities in other parts of the world, but that their response to globalization has certain unique characteristics, rooted in Chinese culture. We will also look at heir experience of internationalization, asking what insights this may give into the kind of global leadership we may expect from China in the later part of the 21st century.
