Non-governmental higher education has been an important part of the higher education system in Mainland China, and is anticipated to be the main area of growth and development in the future. This paper first reviews and explores the history and current conditions of non-governmental higher education development in Mainland China, and then examines some problems, challenges, and future prospects.
