Data mining, a new technology, is one of the most important components of business intelligence. In recent years, this technology has been increasingly widely used in higher education administration and institutional research in the United States as educational decision making increasingly relies on quantitative analysis. Studies have shown that data mining techniques can help university administrators and researchers analyze data better, discover previously unknown, yet meaningful information and knowledge, and thus improve their decision making.
