In 1999, Reformed Medical Curriculum was implemented at the Charite, the medical school and university hospital of the Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany. They developed a medical humanities special study module (SSM) called Principles of Medical Theory and Practice. Integrating the humanities into the medical education helps students develop an awareness of the strengths and limitations of modern medicine, develop their own personalities and sense of social responsibility, and generally broaden their outlook. This curriculum goes on in the form of seminar. Twelve courses constitute a seminar. Students are required to participate in four seminars during five years of studies. Although the medical humanities SSM has been successful on the whole, there have been some problems. This curriculum track still needs to be reviewed and renewed continuously.
