In addressing the tragic accidents of collapse of school buildings and injury and death of school occupants during the Wenchuan Earthquake, the author makes a detailed introduction of the research and recommendations by OECD's Programme on Educational Building (PEB), focusing more on the OECD Recommendation Concerning Guidelines on Earthquake Safety in Schools approved by the OECD Council in 2005. The author puts forth some policy suggestions towards the post-disaster reconstruction work currently undertaken by the Chinese government and people based on the research and recommendations.
