赫钦斯认为，自由教育是整个社会教育，尤其是大学教育的基础，它对抽绎永恒人性，培养学生良好个性，加强大学凝聚力，重塑社会精神等方面都起着积极的作用，同时，在社会迅速发展的今天，自由教育与职业教育可以实现妥协甚至融合，这些对我国当前确立世界一流理念具有明确的启示。

| 英文摘要 |
Hutchins thought the whole social education, especially higher education, was on the basis of liberal education. Liberal education possessed a positive advantage to develop forever humanity, cultivate students’ excellent personalities and enhance the cohesive force in universities. At the same time, today, with the prompt development of society, liberal education could compromise and even syncretism with vocational education. This proposes the enlightenment of up building the ideas of world-class universities in China.
