This article introduces the medical education research development at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Maastrichit in Netherlands. Firstly, it describes the goals and the contents of the education research program. Then it reviews success factors, risk factors and challenges in the future. This article is translated from the article written by professor Wvan der Vleutn et al. which appeared in the Journal of Academic Medicine 2004, 79（10）：985-989.
