1985年台灣重新開放私立學校的籌設，高等教育的發展慢慢從管制走向開放。本文從一些教育統計的數據分析，探討從1985年至今台灣高等教育數量及結構所產生的劇烈改變，並分析這些轉變的因素與政府相關政策之間的關係，以及對於台灣高等教育所造成的影響。根據分析的結果，本文提出一些對於台灣未來高等教育發展的建議。

| 英文摘要 |
In Taiwan, applications for establishing private higher education institutions were closed from 1971 to 1985. In 1985 and thereafter, higher education found versatile and flexible paths for development.
Based on the statistical analysis of educational data from a number of previous related studies, this study focused mainly on the examination of the rapid change of the quantity and structure of higher education in Taiwan, and the relationship between the affecting factors and the educational policies of the government. Suggestions for the future development of high education in Taiwan were presented at the end of this paper.
