The shift of knowledge production paradigm challenges traditional scholarship and value in higher education. Since the 1990s, scholarship of engagement has firstly been rising in American higher education, representing the essential change of Knowledge production paradigm and social service mission in American contemporary higher education. In order to understand the nature of scholarship of engagement profoundly, it is necessary to explore its connotation, theoretical foundation and practice.
