| 英文摘要 |
The most striking feature of higher education development in the new democratic South Africa is its comprehensive process of profound transformation. The paper divides the transformation process into three phase. The paper summarizes the main achievements in restructuring its higher education system, in the formation of a new governance structure, in the diversification of provision, and in the change of size and shape and the improvement of equity and efficiency in the higher education system.
