The study of sign translation belongs to Applied Translation Studies. Being a relatively new branch and orientation of translation studies, it is of great academic and social significance. This paper gives an overview of domestic and foreign sign translation studies as well as the analysis of contributions and limitations of the current research, hoping to provide references for the future sign translation studies on the basis of previous and ongoing studies.
